Job Description

Sr. Technician/Machinist


M-F, 7am-3:30pm

Location: East Berlin, CT


General Summary

The Sr Technician/Machinist is accountable for the fitting and assembly of moderately complicated machines and sub-assemblies to cost-effectively produce a high-quality product on a timely basis that meets customer requirements. They manufacture various metal forming machinery, including spring coilers, wire flattening and shaping equipment, swagers, turks heads and cold rolling mills.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Fit and assemble metal forming equipment that meets customer and design specifications while minimizing scrap/rework costs. 
  • Perform necessary machine cleaning, painting, pipefitting/plumbing and rigging. 
  • Assist team members with their duties and other administrative task to ensure the smooth operation of the department in support of team and company goals. 
  • Monitor inventory levels and locations, and work with support staff to ensure the availability of inventory needed to produce goods on schedule and according to customer requirements. 
  • Monitor methods, processes and procedures on a continual basis to ensure departmental goals are being met related to efficiency, equipment utilization and time usage in order to maintain or improve cost competitiveness. 
  • Provide quality in all goods and services delivered to internal and external customers through thorough planning, responsible implementation, and continuous improvement. 
  • Follow and continually monitor established safety procedures to assure a clean, safe work environment is promoted and maintained. 
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that interfaces well with customers, clients, co-workers and management. 
  • Work to and/or help create standard operating procedures (SOP). 
  • Lead, guide, and train junior employees performing related work. 
  • Minimal travel may be required. 

Job Requirements


  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and assembly prints. 
  • Ability to read and understand written and spoken English. 
  • Ability to read and interpret process routings, bills of materials and work procedures. 
  • Basic math skills, including percentages and the ability to count accurately. 
  • Ability to use machine tools or machinist’s hand tools. 
  • Ability to implement and read various types of gages. 
  • Safety-oriented. 
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team. 
  • Quality oriented with attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends, and alter hours as business needs dictate. 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude. 

Working Conditions

Normal manufacturing shop environment. Lift up to 40Lbs.

Education and Experience

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required. 
  • Minimum of 5 years prior machine building and assembly experience required.
